Kim Kunn is a private chef specialising in seasonal dining and creative hospitality, based in east London. We sat down together on a quiet morning to talk everyday rituals, routine, habits and what it means to feed people well.
Juhi: What time does your morning begin?
Kim: Usually around 7am when my son comes into my bed for morning cuddles. Then I get up to make us breakfast, tea for me, a glass of milk for him, and some toast.
Juhi: Do you have a morning routine or ritual?
Kim: If I manage to wake up before my son, I’ll do a little yoga. Then it’s breakfast together, getting my son ready for school, getting dressed, and walking him to school before heading to my studio.
Juhi: Is there a habit you want to cultivate .
Kim: Rushing less in the morning and starting the day more calmly.
Juhi: What about a habit you want to discard?
Kim: Checking my phone too quickly, I have this very bad habit to check Instagram and emails first thing in the morning.
Juhi: What are the three things you always have in your bag?
Kim: Hand cream, snacks (usually for my son or me), and my diary.
Juhi: Is there an everyday item that you cannot live without?
Kim: My face oil from Merit. I can’t leave the house in the morning without putting some on my face.
Juhi: What is the most ridiculous thing in your kitchen?
Kim: Too many ceramics, bowls, and plates. I cant stop collecting them.
Juhi: What is your comfort food?
Kim: A big bowl of beef pho.
Juhi: What is the best part of your job?
Kim: Creating beautiful moments around a table. I love feeding people and making them feel cared for.
Juhi: Describe the perfect end to a work day
Kim: Eating a nice bowl of pasta with my family and telling each other about our day.
