Our Story
What began as a quiet practice of making soap to share with friends and family has grown, over the past three years, into Skunk Goods Trading. The brand now works with skilled artisans across a range of product categories, from canvas bags that are stitched and riveted in Kolkata to stoneware that is fired in kilns in Pune. Our mission is to make goods that have longevity, utility, serve a clear purpose, and are carefully considered in their design.
Our products are created with the expectation that they will be used often and kept for a long time. Materials are chosen for how they wear, not just how they look when new.
How a product will be used shapes every decision, from keeping the forms simple to thinking carefully about the details, so that each product is made to fit naturally and comfortably in the everyday.
All of our products are made by hand by makers who have spent years understanding their materials and their process, and the result is not uniformity but a consistency that only comes from real skill and care.
Having grown up all over India, I have always had a close proximity to the country's many cultures, crafts, arts and food. Working with Indian artisans was a slow burning thought that stayed with me throughout my twenties and thirties as I navigated other careers.
Kicking off Skunk was an exciting step in the right direction and I always knew that at some point it would involve makers, small producers and craftspeople, especially from India. Skunk Goods Trading is me building on that thought I have carried for a couple of decades now.
Currently working with seven suppliers across various product categories, I am excited to watch Skunk grow into what I have always dreamed it to be.
